The Counsel/Analyst, Internal Investigations is responsible for helping manage the Company’s Global Ethics Helpline, conducting internal investigations globally, and ensuring that ethics and compliance concerns raised by employees, suppliers and other third-parties are promptly and thoroughly investigated and appropriately redressed. The Counsel/Analyst, Internal Investigations reports to the APAC Compliance and Investigations Associate General Counsel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend to reports filed in the Company’s Ethics Helpline and partner with Human Resources and other investigative functions across the Company to ensure timely responses to all concerns raised on the Ethics Helpline and other reporting channels.
  • Conduct internal investigations globally, but primarily in APAC, including developing investigation plans particular to each ethics and compliance concern, collect, review and analyze documents, interview witnesses, reach factual findings and maintain accurate records relating to the Company’s investigations.
  • Advise the Company on internal investigations findings and appropriate remedial actions to be taken based on the findings.
  • Help provide periodic updates to the Company’s management team concerning ethics and compliance concerns, and data and trends regarding compliance culture.
  • Support quarterly reporting of Ethics and Compliance data to Board of Directors, Audit Committee, company leadership, and business units.
  • Assist with training and communication initiatives related to Western Digital’s “Speak Up” culture and non-retaliation policy, including quarterly all-employee communications, annual online compliance training, and post-investigation leadership communications as needed.
  • Analyze ethics and compliance investigations data (including root causes) to determine relevant trends and areas of compliance risk, and recommend effective modes of training, communication, and controls enhancements to address same.
  • Assist with preparation and escalation of root cause reports and remediation plans to ensure cross-functional follow-through on remediation recommendations for preventing future misconduct or other issues.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Undergraduate degree in law, accounting, finance or relevant field with a strong academic record.
  • Qualified or licensed to practice law in relevant jurisdiction, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or background in investigative audit is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5-6 years professional experience with fraud investigation, procurement improprieties, internal or external investigative audit, and related experience is required.
  • Experience conducting and managing document reviews and electronic discovery, creating and following investigations plans, conducting witness interviews and preparing investigation reports.
  • A keen eye for detail, excellent organizational and analytical skills, and a demonstrated record of cross-functional collaboration and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Integrity, professionalism and a keen understanding of the sensitivity and confidentiality of the work is a must.
  • Professional presence, excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, and experience delivering crisp, clear executive presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive and manage multiple projects simultaneously and focus on critical priorities.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to produce high quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global environment and sensitivity to and an understanding of cultural differences around the globe.
  • Excellent English, both oral and written is required.
  • Infrequent but unpredictable travel, including international travel, is required.
