Sri KDU International School Subang Jaya is a growing COBIS/FOBISIA member school, in our fifth academic year, and to maintain our momentum in becoming a leading British international school, we are looking for a caring, experienced and qualified Deputy Head of Primary for an August 2023 start. The Deputy Head of Primary will not retain their own class due to the wide scope of the role, however a small teaching load is projected and flexibility in covering lessons across the primary phase is required.

The Role

The Deputy Head of Primary is member of the Primary Leadership Team and second to the Head of Primary within the Primary School. The role is primarily responsible for monitoring standards of learning and teaching in Primary School, identifying areas of strength, prioritising areas for improvement and summarising the above in reports to the senior leadership team. The role is also linked to assessment, recording, reporting and moderating, ensuring that student progress data is a recorded and analysed in a consistent, reliable manner that provides dependable, accessible and timely information to inform and improve learning. Staff welfare and assurance is linked to this role. Key activities linked to the role include but are not limited to:

  • Observing and feeding back on teaching and learning
  • Learning sampling (book reviews, student feedback, learning walks)
  • Demonstration lessons
  • Staff training (facilitating and delivering)
  • Monitoring of formal and informal staff improvement plans
  • Performance Reviews
  • Line management of selected specialist Heads of Department in Primary
  • Line management of selected Year Leaders on an annual rotation

Additional duties linked to that of a school leader include:

  • Assisting in recruitment (candidate selection and interviewing)
  • Primary assemblies
  • Parent engagement activities, including Parent Forums and workshops
  • Event co-ordination, including CPD (Primary Staff Development)
  • Deputising for Head of Primary
  • Primary staff welfare (providing representation and forums for staff voice)

Person Specification


  • At least 5 years’ hands on, whole class, full time teaching experience in a British based primary school setting is essential. 
  • Minimum of 2 years’ middle leadership experience, such as Head of Year or phase leader.
  • Primary specialists based in the UK or British based international schools are most welcome to apply.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience of teaching across primary key stages is desirable.
  • Only qualified teachers with a relevant degree relating to primary school education are eligible; specific qualifications in early childhood are preferred. Diplomas and language related qualifications do not meet requirements.

  • Wide knowledge base to support year group and primary school planning, assessment, timetabling and quality assurance.

Recognised teaching qualification (qualified teacher status UK or equivalent)

Evidence of ongoing professional development

Leadership qualifications, such as NPQSL, are highly desirable
