The Bar Council is hiring Risk Officers to manage its risk management programme, which includes engaging with Members of the Malaysian Bar and law firms on managing risks relating to legal practice. The Bar Council is seeking candidates who are passionate about risk management and good governance.  

The position will require candidates to:

  • Engage with Members of the Malaysian Bar and law firms on the significance of risk management and good governance;
  • Deliver risk management training to members of the legal profession;
  • Assist law firms with implementing risk management and good governance in law practice; and
  • Develop strategic tools to mitigate risks in the profession.

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research, gathering information, and preparing materials to accomplish the objectives;
  • Appreciating and being able to interpret data;
  • Managing projects, including planning, coordinating, and meeting deadlines;
  • Being able to take on complex issues concerning professional indemnity and risk management, and communicating objectives and concepts succinctly;
  • Being able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality; and
  • May be required to perform other related assignments and ad hoc tasks. 

Candidates should possess the following attributes:

  • Able to appreciate the value of risk management and good governance;
  • Able to communicate concepts clearly and think critically;
  • Able to capture and inspire their audience on the concept and topic of risk management and good governance;
  • Self-motivated and dedicated, and able to work independently in a challenging environment under minimum supervision, and yet be a team player;
  • Approachable, empathic, and non-confrontational; and
  • Have been practising for a minimum of two years or possess the relevant experience in the area of corporate governance.

Successful candidates can expect a competitive salary package based on their qualifications and level of experience. The position is on a contract basis of two years.
