Purpose of the Job

As a SEND Teacher, you will be responsible for supporting the school curriculum and the SEND policy using the Cambridge framework to ensure the highest quality of student learning. As a SEND Teacher, you will work across the full spectrum of both educational settings and year groups, from Early Years Foundation to Key Stage 4. Work with children and young people who have a range of complex needs for example those with autism, social, emotional, and moderate learning difficulties including, in some instances, those who exhibit challenging behaviour. To undertake specified work with individuals, groups, and whole classes. To encourage the participation of pupils in the social and academic processes of the school and enable pupils to become more independent learners. To undertake support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate must possess at least a Professional Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Post Graduate Diploma or Diploma in Education/ Teaching, Linguistics/ Languages or equivalent to the level/subject applied for; Specific relevant advanced SEND qualification.
  • At least 5 years of working experience.
  • Applicants must be willing to work in the areas where the schools with vacancies are located at.
  • Able to communicate fluently in English.
  • Able to start ASAP / Immediately

Areas of Responsibility

Communication

  • Demonstrable evidence of participating in continuous professional development and applying this within the specialist area/s of work.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of professionals and an ability to resolve conflict.
  • Ability to contribute an enthusiastic and clear vision for collaborative working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to model high professional standards in all aspects of work.
  • Confidence and competence in the use of ICT.

Students

  • Aid and support to children with Special Education needs, to be decided at the discretion of the Head of School and SENCO
  • Collaboration with classroom teachers and SEN Department
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of children with Special Education needs.
  • Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress.
  • Deliver small group support and interventions to support pupils with SEN and raise achievement in an SEN area of specialism.  
  • Encourage children with Special Education needs to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all pupils in activities.
  • Support children with Special Education needs consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
  • Deliver learning activities to pupils within an agreed supervision system, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs.
  • Create a safe, productive, and positive classroom environment.

General

  • In cooperation with the Partnership HOS/SENCO, oversee the day-to-day operation of SEN within the school 
  • To complete to a high standard all SEN administration 
  • Analyse and act on specialist reports regarding children’s SEN.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of children with Special Education needs within the classroom.
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward the achievement of self-reliance.
  • Provide feedback to staff in relation to progress and achievement. This could include target setting, attending Annual reviews and pupil progress meetings.
  • Within an agreed supervision system, plan to challenge teaching and learning objectives to evaluate and adjust lessons/work plans as appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives.
  • Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required on pupil achievement, progress, and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
  • Record progress and achievement in lessons/activities systematically and provide evidence of range and level of progress and attainment.
  • Work within an established behaviour policy (behaviour plan) to anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence.
  • Update the SENCO on the effectiveness of provision for pupils with SEN.

Professional Development

  • Participates in staff development programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or HOS
  • Maintains appropriate dress, demeanour, good hygiene and positive work ethic as defined by school standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Evaluation

  • The performance will be evaluated in accordance with school policy by the designated supervisor.

Any other task or project as assigned by the Management / Head of School from time to time.
